Geocache Description:

This will be a series of 9 groups, each have 3 parts for a total of 27 caching hides.  The Title of the series is Lessons in Color.

In developing this Series, I was prompted to actually research what do the colors really mean. I have always like etymology, but more than that, I like the phrases, idioms and expressions that really have their roots from something more than just commonplace current day usage.

Small container, bring tweezers.

This is not intended to actually be complete by any means since most words have meanings rooted deep in history that may have changed through the years and also crosses cultures in their meanings.….this has been just a method for developing a new hiding series for our area (that will be a little unusual).

I, the CO, am the lecturer and the leader of this field trip down Highway 63 in Union County. The family PEZ has agreed to provide my students for this adventure. At the end of each group will be my party planner to provide the final color connection who may provide treats or favors to take home or just to take it easy.

There will be some differences but also sameness. The camo and visibility will be different and finding should be very easy so just enjoy the idea.

So, here we go……………By the way----at the bottom will be other information you might be interested in.

PURPLE has commonly been associated with royalty and piety.  The word PURPLE came from a word for the name of a dye manufactured in classical antiquity that was created from mucus secreted by a sea snail.  Great sounding, huh to start off with.  It became the imperial color of kings, nobles, priests and magistrates all around the Mediterranean, mentioned in the Old Testament several times and today is used as a symbol of kingly clothing for Christ. Emperor’s children were born in the PURPLE chamber and were thus known as “born to the PURPLE” to separate them from Emperors who won or seized the title through politics or military force.  Many professors in universities wear a shade of PURPLE and PURPLE robes were particularly worn by students of divinity/theology. Gospel manuscripts were written in gold lettering on parchment that was colored with this special sea snail PURPLE.  This particular PURPLE was very expensive to process; so, in later years a different shade of PURPLE had to be found, so in the Catholic Church, the colors worn by Cardinals changed from PURPLE to red and Bishops were given a less-expensive shade.  PURPLE symbolizes penitence so priests wear PURPLE during confession, during Lent, may wear officiating at funerals.  Some senior pastors of protestant churches often wear PURPLEPURPLE is still used by the British Royal Family and other European royalty as a ceremonial color on special occasions.

PURPLE was one of the first colors used in prehistoric art.

Even tho in the 20th century, PURPLE retained its historic connection with royalty; it was becoming associated with social change; with Women’s Suffrage movement, with Feminism and with the psychedelic drug culture. It became part of a lot of conversation in 1989 when what became the PURPLE Rain Protest taking place in South Africa when a police water cannon with PURPLE dye sprayed the demonstrators.  The PURPLE necktie became very popular in the early 1900s combining the assertiveness and confidence of a red necktie with the sense of peace and cooperation of a blue necktie.

PURPLE pigments in nature aid photosynthesis by blocking harmful wavelengths of light that would damage the leaves.  PURPLE pigments also help attract insects which pollinate the flowers and the shades of PURPLE are determined to some degree by their level of ph.

In China, PURPLE represents spiritual awareness, physical and mental healing, strength and abundance.  Having to do with astrological signs and locations, the Forbidden City in Beijing is also known as the PURPLE Forbidden City.  For them, PURPLE represents the harmony of the universe because it is a combo of red and blue (Yin and Yang).  In Japan, it is the color of privilege and wealth, aristocracy. In Thailand, widows in mourning wear PURPLE.

Idioms and expressions:

PURPLE prose (overly embellished writing); PURPLE passage (a paragraph with excessive number of long and unusual words); PURPLE patch (a period of exceptional success or good luck); PURPLE haze (psychedelic connotation-first LSD manufactured were PURPLE capsules); wearing PURPLE (military slang expression for an officer serving in a joint assignment with another service). PURPLE state (equally balanced between Republicans and Democrats).

The Purple Heart is a U.S. military decoration to those who have been wounded or killed during their service.

In Star Trek universe, Klingons have PURPLE blood. In Star Wars films, Mace Windu is the only character with a PURPLE light saber.

PURPLE is sometimes associated with the LGBT community.  It is the symbolic color worn on Spirit Day, to show support for young people who have been bullied because of sexual orientation.

SOME AREAS WILL HAVE RECOGNIZABLE PULL-OFFS.  MOST DO NOT. HOWEVER, THE SHOULDERS ARE WIDE AND SOLID

CACHES IN THE LECTURES WILL MOSTLY BE HANGING BUT NOT ALL

CACHES IN THE STUDENT SECTIONS WILL ALL BE HANGING

CACHES IN THE FINAL COLOR CONNECTION WILL MOSTLY BE LOW, BUT NOT ALL

THERE WILL NOT BE TOO MANY HINTS IN THE ENTIRE 27 CACHES OF THE SERIES.  COLOR WILL MOSTLY SAY IT ALL.

Congrats to arkfiremedic (and I think 2ter) for FTF.
