This cache is placed near to an area of Tehidy Country Park where our geohounds love to play. However this particular part of the trail does not allow dogs so someone will have to wait with any geohounds while this one is retrieved. Area can become muddy after rain. This is a very popular area so stealth will be required! We placed it mid-week in term time when it was very quiet but holidays and weekends will be busier!
Tehidy is the largest area of woodland in West Cornwall. Now managed as a Country Park, Tehidy has over 9 miles (14.5km) of paths and 250 acres of peaceful woods and lakes to explore, together with a café and a picnic area. There are 5 main access points including North Cliff car park, and South Drive car park. Please note that if you park at the South Drive car park that dogs are not allowed around the lake area and therefore you will need to take the longer route around.
Tehidy was formerly the estate of the Bassets, one of the four most powerful families in Cornwall with extensive lands and mineral rights in this western part of the county. Inland at Carn Brea, the prominent hill near Redruth, you can see the Basset memorial, built in 1836 to honour Sir Francis Basset (1757-1835).
