ALAN BALL (1989-91)
P62 W17 D21 L24 (Win 27.42%)
A world cup winner as manager of Stoke, his managerial career was not as sucessful as that of his career as a player. Started as assistant to Mick Mills , Ball thought the squad he had inherited was simply not good enough and quickly set about changing the whole squad around. The gamble did not pay off and Stoke finished rock bottom and dropped to the third tier of english football for the first time in 63 years. After being favorite for premotion straight back up, Stoke ended the 1990-91 season at an all time low of 14th in the 3rd division.
Alan Ball will go down in Stoke's history as on of our worst ever managers.
