Geocache Description:

Winchester-Frederick County Civil War Geo-Trail Kickoff

The Winchester-Frederick County Convention & Visitors Bureau is proud to present the Winchester-Frederick County Civil War Geo-Trail (Win-Fred CWT).

Please join us on February 15th, 2014 at the Winchester-Frederick County Visitors Center, 1400 S. Pleasant Valley Road, Winchester, VA 22601, from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 noon.

We will be celebrating the kickoff of the Winchester-Frederick County Civil War Geo-Trail.

The trail is comprised of 20 notable Civil War sites that are part of the Virginia Civil War Trails program. This geo-trail is sure to be educational and fun for both young and old.

The first 40 cachers that find 10 of the 20 sites will be awarded a special Civil War themed prize bag from the trail sponsor, the Winchester-Frederick County Convention & Visitors Bureau. Each site’s cache will have a code word that has to be recorded. Playlist will be available after the event, when the caches publish. Once you have completed the trail and written down the code word for each site, head over to the Winchester-Frederick County Visitors Center at 1400 S. Pleasant Valley Road, Winchester, VA 22601. The Visitors Center is open daily from 9 a.m.-5 p.m., closed on major holidays. The code words will be verified and you will receive your special Civil war themed prize bag after filling out a very short informational card.

There will be plenty of time for bug/coin dropping/discovering/swapping, path tag swapping, chatting, photos, etc. Information will be available about the local geo-trail and caches as well as other hidden gems that our area has to offer.

Refreshments will be provided courtesy of the Winchester-Frederick County Visitors Center.

Coordinates for the Winchester-Frederick County Civil War Geo-Trail will be released at noon.
