Geocache Description:

Alsume’s 26th cache brings you to a location that could be in downtown Moscow rather than East Brunswick. It is the spectacular domes of the Russian Orthodox Church, which was built on the site with the foundation laying ceremony being held in 1989, after the Church had outgrown its previous site in Collingwood. A detailed history of the Church and the move to East Brunswick is given on their website at http://www.holyprotectioncathedral.org.au/en/index.php?/History/church-history.html.

The cache itself is hidden over the road in Jones Park, a large park with playground, BBQ facilities and more. It is an off-lead location for dogs, and can be used for children's parties, family get togethers and small festivals/events of up to 500 people. Some events will require a permit from the Council – details at http://www.moreland.vic.gov.au/arts-and-festivals/arts-activities-venues/outdoor-spaces-moreland.html .

Jones Reserve has concrete pathways to take walkers in an approximate twenty minute circle around the park. The stroll includes a single hill climb, which once completed, rewards walkers with great views from the top of a tiered, platform. All of the tall buildings of Melboune's CBD can be seen from there and way out on the opposite horizon, the outline of Mount Dandenong is visible.

The location is within 200m of the house I grew up in. Needless to say, when I lived here it was a brickworks, not a park, and the Church had not been started, so the area has changed somewhat.

The cache is a small cylinder hidden in a way familiar to geocachers. However to find it you will need to collect some information. The header coordinates will place you in front of a sign, from which you will need the following information:

A = finishing time of alcohol restriction (am)

B = metres from playground that is no smoking

C = metres from playground & BBQ that dogs must be on lead – then add digits together

D = add together the second, third and seventh numbers in phone number

E = twice the number of gumnuts in the graphic on the sign

F = number of wine glasses in graphic on sign

Use S 37 45.ABC   E 144 58.DEF to get you to WP2.

You will then be looking at a plaque about the opening of the park. From this:

G = number of letters in the third word on the first line of writing

H = number of letters in the first word of the second last line

I = number of letters in the third word on the first line

J = number of letters in the month of the opening

K = first digit in day of opening

L = the number of letters on the fifth line

The cache is located at S 37 45.GHI   E 144 58.JKL. Please replace the cache exactly as you found it, and enjoy the park and the architecture.

Don’t forget there is a second cache in Allard Park at the top of the hill.
