This trail is comprised of 20 cache sites that are part of the Virginia Civil War Trails Program. Learn more about Civil War Trails by visiting www.CivilWarTrails.org. The Winchester-Frederick County Visitors Center is located at 1400 S. Pleasant Valley Road, Winchester, VA 22601. The Visitors Center is open daily from 9 a.m.-5 p.m., closed on major holidays..

Shawnee Springs Hospital
This cache is at the posted coordinates but is locked with a combination lock. In order to figure out the combination you will need to read the nearby wayside maker and answer the following question: How many tents did Surgeon John H. Brinton order? Add 75 to the number of tents that were ordered and that is the combination.
About the container:
1.You will see a black key safe that is locked.
2. To access the numbers gently slide the shield down
3. There are four numbers, if the number of tents were to be a three digit number zero would be the first digit entered.
4. Once you have dialed in the combination gently move the black lever to the left down.
5. When you have closed the safe be sure to scramble the numbers and slide the shield back up.
