If possible, please leave the lid in place, remove only the cache container. This will help preserve the host as well as keep the cache from wandering around too much!
This is one cache in a series of 10 being placed in honour of the Dewey Decimal System. (They are not being released in numerical order.) You can take the girl out of the library, but you can't take the library out of the girl! Each cache has a theme, which is reflected in the Dewey number it has been given. I am not assigning cutter numbers or subject headings. ;)
900 is the Dewey number for History and Geography. 970 is for North America - Canada gets 71, Mexico 72, and the United States gets 73-78. 971 (Canada) is broken out in to smaller areas, and the history of Alberta falls in 971.23.
I would be remiss if I used a Dewey number for history and didn't share a little history on this location!
Kingsway Garden Mall was constructed in 1976 and underwent extensive ($70 million) renovations in the mid-2000s, opening with a fresh look and a new name in 2009. Now called Kingsway Mall, it boasts over 200 stores, restaurants and services, and is the second largest mall in Edmonton. Kingsway is currently anchored by Sears and The Bay. The mall is located at the cross-roads of three major arteries, close to NAIT, the Royal Alexandra Hospital, the Glenrose Rehabilitation Hospital, and the (former) City Centre Airport. It is also a significant transit hub, and has a pair of LRT stops with the Royal Alex/Kingsway stop at one end of the mall and the NAIT stop at the other.
I think the landscaping work is complete in this area, but let me know if you think the cache is in danger!
