Addison Road Spirit
A woman in black was once reportedly seen at a property on Addison road in the mid 1960’s.
The ghost was said to have plagued a young couple who owned a shop. 31 year old Frank and his 21 year old wife were so spooked that they called in the services of a psychic medium. The medium determined that the spirit was of evil intent and gave her the name Lilian. Mrs Perry had just given birth to a baby boy and was told by the medium to stay away from the haunted building.
‘I am frightened by what might happen’ Mr Perry told the Bromley times in early December 1966. ‘I want to get rid of Lilian by this weekend’. Mr Perry had been plagued by strange tapping noises which were investigated by a Times report who stayed the night at the house. As he switched off the light he reported feeling uneasy, particularly as he has settled down next to a chair that was said to be frequently used by Lilian. Despite having four blankets the reporter noted how cold the room seemed compared to others in the house, and then, the tapping started….
‘I followed the sound, only to discover to my relief it was the window rattling in its frame’. However after falling back asleep, the reporter was woken by a big bang. When awake he was startled by the sound of heavy breathing close by, but when he inspected the chair it was empty. With dawn breaking the reported decided to go and find Mr Perry but was then freaked out by deep rumbling sound that emanated from the room. Mr Perry was however asleep and so he returned to the room.
‘I called to Lilian’ he said, ‘there was no answer. I felt a fool. ‘Are you there?’ I asked again’. There was no answer.
He concluded in his report ‘But the mystery still remains unsolved. At 7 o’clock my heart stopped as the alarm went. And I left the shop rather faster than I had entered. It was certainly a good night for ghosts’.
