Geocache Description:

"Hiway to Heaven" is a small geocache placed just off the beaten path. It has room for small trade item but you will need to bring a writing utensil. Please stop and enjoy the view and breathe in the air off the Gulf of Mexico.

"Hiway to Heaven" is placed as a memorial to our father. "Hiway" loved geocaching. This wonderful activity blessed the last few years of his life and brought him much joy. I took him geocaching one Father's Day figuring he would love it or hate it. Well, he loved it and became addicted to it. It gave him exercise and adventure and our mother would often tag along for company. They spent hours in the state parks and it gave them a reason to have lunch at some of the great state park inns.

"Hiway" was from Indiana but Sanibel is our second home. We started visiting Sanibel in the early 1970's. The stories of so many visits over the past 40 years are too numerous to tell here. We spent many a family vacations on the island, CelticFC and I were married on Sanibel and many of you attended our wedding reception/geocaching event 7 years ago. We have family that live nearby and we visit the Lighthouse as many times during the year as possible. "Hiway" and our mother spent many winter weeks here but when he became too ill to travel, he stayed backed home in Indiana. However, his soul now rests on Sanibel. You see, "Hiway" passed away 3 years ago and he blows in the wind over the beaches at the Lighhouse.

My brother was recently married on the island and asked if I would hide a cache in father's honor. The Lighthouse was his favorite location so we found a sweet spot slightly off the path. It's in a high muggle area so please be respectful. If you have a chance and you stop at one of the local eateries, lift a beer and make a toast "Hiway." He'll be smiling at you.
