Blue House On The Water Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

trbld4: My Dad, aka Uncle Gordon has passed. And with his passing and no one there to monitor the cache site - I have decided to also let this cache pass. He enjoyed meeting so many of you and playing hot/cold with those who asked for a hint. Mahalo cachers for your Aloha all these years!

Geocache Description:

Welcome to Kealakekua Bay - my home. This beautiful bay is a marine life sanctuary and home to the world famous spinner dolphins. This is the place where the first outside contact by foreigners was made in 1779 by Capt. James Cook. This is also the place of the 2011 tsunami that changed the scenery of our bay.

Once upon a time there stood a grand 3 story, 6 bedroom big blue house. Many memories for my ohana as we live next door and were the caretakers of this vacation rental for over a decade. On the early morning of March 11, 2011 - the terrible Japan earthquake generated a Pacific wide tsunami that reached Kealakekua Bay. Many homes along the shores of the bay were damaged or destroyed including my father's home. The Big Blue house made headlines as it was picked up off it's foundation in one piece and carried a half mile across the bay where it eventually broken apart by the swells. The wonderful community came together to clean our beautiful bay of all the debris in the water and shoreline. The blue house was never rebuilt as well as a couple of others - my dad's home is a simple one room structure but he is content :-)

the cache is a micro hidden at what used to be the front entryway to the blue house. If anyone questions you being on the property, tell them my dad - aka Uncle Gordon says you can be there :-) But none will bother you except maybe our pet donkey who eats the grass there. UPDATE- There is a private property sign on chain barrier in front of GZ. We placed it there to keep out squatters. Geocachers are welcome. Just let anyone who says anything that you have permission by Uncle Gordon.
