The four pictures below are all taken within the vicinity of the starting co-ordinates (a couple of minutes walk at most) Your task is simply to work out where. Once you've done that, the distance given in the picture in metres is simply the distance from the object in the picture to the final cache.
Retook measurements on 15/2/14. You may wish to refer to the original (see 'PPP2 Mk I' in the image gallery) and see if you find it easier to work with. Note picture A differs between the two.
Notes:
- Picture A is one of a kind (unless you're working from PPP2 Mk I, in which case it refers to the northernmost of 2 similar items).
- Picture B refers to the northernmost of a number of similar items.
- Picture C refers to the westernmost of two similar items.
- Picture D is the only one of its kind I could see!
The suggested approach we'd recommend is as follows: once you've located each of the objects pictured, add a waypoint manually to your GPS at the site to record the co-ordinates. Most GPS units have a facility, when choosing a waypoint to navigate to, to give you a list of the nearest waypoints to wherever you're standing in ascending order of distance, along with the distance to each waypoint. (see screenprint below from our GPS as an example.)
Screenshot taken from a random location nearby!
Simply manoeuvre yourself until the distances all match up (you may not get spot on, depending on the accuracy/satellite conditions etc, but it'll certainly bring you to GZ) For example, if the distance from picture B is lower where you're standing than the distance given on this page, then walk further away from it - you'll know where they all are as you'll have been to all four places! I've added a geochecker if you're really stuck. The geochecker will give you a hit if you're within 10 metres and will give you exact co-ordinates when you get a hit.
Please keep your wits about you as you're trying to locate GZ due to the traffic near your route - it can be dangerous if you're not paying attention. We wouldn't recommend this cache to geokids.
Stealth will be required at the final location. Please use the hint and spoiler pic provided, and if it's too muggly, please return another time.
The final location is wheelchair friendly, but I'm rating this as a terrain 1.5 in view of the distance you'll need to cover.
