Geocache Description:

The cache is located near the little engine, No. 1902, one of twenty locomotives used by the Army Quartermasters Corps. to move supplies, construction materials, and soldiers around Fort Benning from 1921 - 1946.

The "Chattahoochee Choo-Choo", noted at the time for being the world’s longest narrow-gauge railroad, is an essential part of Fort Benning history. These types of railways began in WWI, when they were used to transport troops and supplies to the front lines in Europe, then later adapted with a progressing Camp Benning. The railway was once intended to be a permanent part of the installation. However, the tracks were removed and today only one engine and one transport car still remain at the National Infantry Museum's outdoor display of the 2-ft gauge steam locomotive.

You will be able to view the last of its kind while you search for the cache. Note: the cache is not on the train. Be respectful of the area and remember to be discreet with your searching.

If you want to see the Army’s railroad in action, here's a clip of a 16mm silent film that was shot in the 1940's. Broadcaster John Gilbert found and rescued it from a dumpster. He writes, "It's marked 'Reel 2'. Never found reel 1."
