Geocache Description:

Ready for more May-hem ?  The May bank-holiday is upon us... Spring should hopefully be well and truly here, we might even see a glimpse of summer cheeky

This event was last held in 2012 and was a roaring success (once we got the BBQ going !), a brass-band even turned up laugh

There are two elements to this event - firstly, as a social event for local (and the not so local) Geocachers, a chance for cachers to get together, meet the locals, see some new faces, and share stories of that 5/5 up a mountain - and that darned 1/1 that took 3 weeks to find !

Secondly, it will also be a good opportunity for beginners and new Geocachers to come along and meet, chat and pick the brains of some experienced Geocachers.  For the complete novice (and the wee ones), there will also be a non-loggable trail where you can pick up pieces to build a small wooden animal (thanks to FFB for the tip).

Mugdock is one of Scotland's most popular visitor attractions offering a great countryside experience and there are a number of Geocaches in and around Mugdock Country Park. There will be ample opportunity for those of you that haven't quite bagged them all yet to go get 'em ! And for the newbies, this is a great place to get started ! Experienced Geocachers will be around to give you a helping hand.

There will be some new caches in and around the park, planted for the event which will be published on the day. For those leaving home before the caches are published, the best place to get internet access on the go will be in Milngavie, before heading up to Mugdock.  Some mobile networks do have a good signal in the park, however print-outs of the caches will be available at the event site for those unable to download GC's on the fly.

The event itself will run from 12pm-7pm, there will be a barbeque and a selection of snacks / drinks provided.  Although the BBQ will be lit, it's a BYOB (Bring Yer Own Burgers) event this year.  If you don't want to bring/cook your own, there's plenty of good food and drink available from the cafe(s) in the park.  We will have the use of the site for the whole day and night - so for those of you tough enough, and lucky enough to be off work the following day, camping will be available on-site (Limited spaces and MUST BE BOOKED IN ADVANCE - please PM me) so why not stay and have a wee beer or a glass of wine around the campfire ?

The main location is just a short walk from the Visitor Centre and car park, this year the event will be held at The Pond BBQ site, just down the hill from the visitor centre, outside of the walled garden.  This is the smaller of the two BBQ sites, but there are picnic tables and ample nearby recreational grassland. Both the adventure and children's play parks are local to this area too.

As this is Scotland, and a bank holiday... it might just rain, if so - there will be shelter provided at the BBQ site.

The event itself is free, as are snacks, BBQ, etc - however any small donations would be much appreciated to cover costs. Any 'profits', will be donated to the Mugdock Country Park Countryside Ranger Service, to be put towards conservation projects.

For anyone interested in camping, limited spaces are available, priced at £2.50 p/p, this MUST be booked in advance. PM me and I'll send further details.

See the related link above for further information on Mugdock Country Park, and maps etc.

NOTE FOR DISABLED CACHERS: Large parts of Mugdock are disabled accessible, however there are some parts that are not at all, and some parts that may be a bit tricky. Assistance is recommended - Mugdock can provide a range of mobility equipment, free of charge, for use within the park. To book mobility equipment call 0141 956 6100 or pop into the Park office for more information and have a look at what's on offer.
