This is my first attempt at a puzzle cache so I hope you like it! It's based inside Norfolk Park, a beautiful green space in Sheffield offering views over the city and varying terrain.
This puzzle cache involves solving three puzzles based on subjects you may have studied at school: Maths, English, and a Mystery subject. Solving the puzzles will give you three sets of coordinates, with camouflaged containers at each. Inside these caches are clues which, when combined, will give you the location of the final small cache containing the log. Good luck!
Puzzle 1 - English
The answer to each of these literature related questions will be a number.
- A Big brother’s appearance
- B The answer to the ultimate question
- C Rings of power
- D Philosopher’s stone vault
- E Gatsby’s last summer
- F Shakespeare’s night
- G Holmes' house
- H Asimov’s laws
- I Charcoal, battleship, ash, slate and many more
Then use this formula to get the co-ordinates:
- North: N53 22.[ A + C + G - B - E - H - H ]
- West: W001 27.[ D - ( I x F ) + G - ( [ B - F ] ÷ H ) ]
You can validate your English puzzle solution with certitude.
Puzzle 2 - Mystery
Each of the letters or combinations of letter in brackets have something in common. This common link will guide you towards a number that each can be associated with. Use this number to work out the coordinates.
- North: N(I) (Ti).(Mn)(B)
- West: W00(H) (Fe).(O)(N)(He)
You can validate your mystery puzzle solution with certitude.
Puzzle 3 - Maths
Solve the following:
- Q Differentiate 154x2, then differentiate it again
- R How many edges does a dodecahedron have?
- S What is 10,816 to the power of a half?
- T What is the sine of 90 degrees?
- U What is the logarithm of one million to base ten?
Then use this formula to get the co-ordinates:
- North: N53 22.[ ( Q / T ) - S - ( U x T ) ]
- West: W001 27.[ ( S x [ R / U ] ) - ( Q + R ) ]
You can validate your Maths puzzle solution with certitude.
Final Puzzle
Now that you have all three coordinates, go to each location to find the final clues. Each cache will contain two of the six digits needed for the final coordinates, so put them into this formula:
- North: N53 22.FAE
- West: W001 26.BDC
If you have done everything correctly then you will find the cache! I hope you enjoy your visit to the park!
Congratulations to The Gom Squad for F2F!
