deftnESS EXpected Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

The Aljos: It was placed for the 2014 Mega and due to its exposed position it wasn't really 'Expected' to last for long. Replacing would be pointless so sadly it is now time to archive.

Geocache Description:

A magnetic micro placed just a short walk away from the 2015 UK Mega ESSEX Team's 'Meet and Greet' event venue ............. the Ship Inn. A visit to this excellent viewpoint is recommended. Please replace exactly as found.

Just a short climb to the top of a grassy bank to get some stunning views of the Irvine harbour area and beyond. Sit a while and enjoy the scenery.
Look south beyond the Irvine Beach Park and you will see Ailsa Craig and the South Ayrshire coast. Look west over the Firth of Clyde for stunning views of the Isle of Arran. Immediately below and to the north of the harbour are the Bogside mud flats and its bird sanctuary. On the opposite side of the harbour entrance you will notice an unusual construction that was originally called 'The Big Idea'. It was intended to be used as an inventor's museum but sadly ran out of funding. It opened on April 15, 2000, at a cost of £14 million (provided by Lottery funding from the Millennium Project), and was housed in a spectacular earth-covered building built on the site of Alfred Nobel's former dynamite factory. Access from the harbour area was provided by a bridge known as the Bridge of Scottish Invention, which utilised an innovative roll-back design - instead of swinging horizontally or vertically, the museum end was designed to slide back over itself, creating a central opening through which tall vessels could pass.
Joint FTF goes to Tatooinecheck and Agent75...............well done
