When I started Geocaching back in 2010, there weren’t many events around, only the few annual ones that are still continuing today. So being new to the game, it was hard to get to know any other cachers. There was a chance to run into another cacher while attempting a first to find but it always wasn’t a certainty .But lately, I have attended events almost once a month! And in doing, I’ve been able to meet some wonderful and interesting people in our geocaching community and it has brought a new social side of geocaching and It has really been enjoyable. Many cachers have invited others to come to their local areas and invited to go on walks, on clean up events or just a simple catch up. I think it’s my turn to invite other cachers to my area!
I will take my turn and invite all cachers to the lovely Tench Reserve by the Nepean River in Jamsiontown, Penrith for the Caching by the Nepean event! This is a great reserve along the river and Tench Ave to bring the family for a BBQ lunch, a quiet picnic or a big game of social cricket. The reserve contains a few covered BBQ areas, numerous covered and uncovered picnic tables, plenty of parking, two playgrounds, two toilet blocks, a kiosk caravan( only operating or weekends or public holidays), plenty of walking paths along the river with many benches with view over the river. The infamous Nepean Belle paddle wheeler may be out on the river for you to see.
The event will be a social gathering for all cachers to catch up, new cachers are very much welcome to attend and meet everyone. The event will start at 10:30am and will continue on for as long as you like. Bring a few snacks for yourself or a whole picnic basket for your family for a midday lunch. Food should be available from the kiosk on the day. If I’m lucky, I will try a grab one of the BBQ’s there to be available for everyone for cooking snags and steak for lunch at the event. I will try get a few caches planted around the area just in time for the event.
Don’t forget to bring your travel bugs and geocoins to swap with others cachers at the event. Feel free to bring a football or a Frisbee etc. to help you enjoy the day. Hope to see many people there. If all goes well, the event may occur annually.
