Geocache Description:

The possibility of coal in this area was first reported to the secretary of mines in 1897. In 1913 coal prospecting licence was taken out by the government and later sold to Fred Hart of Maranoa Colleries Pty Ltd. Test Drilling started in 1922 with seams of coal fould in 1926. In 1932 Ned Wall supervised the drilling of tunnels and then the removal of the first coal in February 1933. Up to 100 tons of coal was extracted by the miners and the faithful pit ponies. The coal was supplied for the trains on the Western Railway lines from Roma to Cunnamulla.

If you miss the turn off either way (there are no sign posts) unfortunately there is nowhere to turn around.

PLEASE DO NOT TAKE YOUR CARAVAN ON THIS ROAD AS THERE IS NO TURN AROUND.

Site is approx 4 km from Injune on left hand side.
