There has been a chapel or church in Ecchinswell for centuries, probably since Saxon times. The original building stood behind the Old Vicarage near the footbridge that crosses the village stream. It was demolished in 1885 and rebuilt on the present site and consecrated on 15 October 1886.
The Church is dedicated to St Lawrence, a 3rd Century martyr in Rome. It was designed by GE Bodley and T Garner, well-known Victorian architects, responsible for other churches and college buildings in Oxford.
