Rooiberg (763m) Traditional Cache
Please note Use of geocaching.com services is subject to the terms and conditions
in our disclaimer.
On the slope of the Rooiberg, wild Rooibush tea is growing... This cache/trail directly leads you through this area to the top of the Rooiberg... We have adopted the old friendship book as an Official Geocache with the permission of the owner Katrin...
The cache can be reached as part of the Rooiberg trail (2-3 hours). It starts and ends at camp sites 17 and 21. It partially follows the old rough road up to the saddle between Rooiberg (left) and Wolfberg (right). From there, a path leads to the left onto the top of the Rooiberg (763masl). Up there, we have adopted the old friendship book as an Official Geocache with the permission of the owner Katrin... Following the trail will lead you to the top of Nieuwoudts pass (we did not find a way through to the cache hidden there)... Then the trail will lead you back to the campsite.
This is serious hiking!
DO bring enough water with you (especially the way down from the Nieuwoudts pass can be very hot and demanding).
DO wear appropriate shoe wear and physical as well as chemical sun protection.
We do not recommend combining this cache with the Wolfberg cache, as at least for us (tried in 2009) this was VERY demanding.
Try to avoid the heat of the middle of the day.
