Close to the Rooiberg, there is the Wolfberg... The cache is hidden close to the top of this mountain... From up there, you can see Clanwilliams Dam... Enjoy!
The landscape
From along the hike up to this cache you can see the valley of Algeria including the growing Jamaka farm. Up here, you can even have a view to the other side with the Clanwilliam Dam.
History of the cache-box
This box was given to us at our farewell party back in Germany before we moved to UK. Many thanks again to MrMaddock for this nice present. It is our utmost pleasure that this one now is up here at the Wolfberg, as part of diemoeppse also has Wolf as part of his name.
The cache/trail
This cache/trail leads you up to the Wolfberg (840masl) and takes 3-4 hours. The cache can be reached as part of the Rooiberg trail. It starts and ends at camp sites 17 and 21. It partially follows the old rough road up to the saddle between Rooiberg (left) and Wolfberg (right). From there, now turn right (or north) and stay more-or-less at the ridge of the mountain. This may include some climbing activity. Up there, make sure you enjoy the stunning views at the Wolfberg marked by a pillar of concrete. This is not a loop road, so you have to get back as you came. We have tried to take the old rough road back, instead of the hike, however, doubt that this would really be easier. The cache is placed with permission of the owner of the land, Katrin...
This is serious hiking!
DO bring enough water with you (especially the way down back to the valley can be very hot and demanding).
DO wear appropriate shoe wear and physical as well as chemical sun protection.
We do not recommend combining this cache with the Rooiberg cache, as at least for us (tried in 2009) this was VERY demanding.
Try to avoid the heat of the middle of the day.
