Geocache Description:

A quick Park&Grab on a name-corrected road.

This is the sister cache for "Coulter or Coulters?" located at the other end of this road, which can be found at the start of this loop of caches along Te Awa Road, Ridge Road and Coulter Line.

I have always been fascinated with place names that are spelt incorrectly and have subsequently been corrected.
This could be local interpretations of a spelling, multiple spellings for the same name, or just a simple typo when the street/stream/mountain/etc was originally named.
The most common causes of the misspellings are people's surnames (often a possessive " 's " shortened/typoed to plural), or an incorrect Māori spelling.

This cache is at the intersection of Coulter Line and Te Awa Road. As you can see in the photo, this was previously called "Coulters Line".

I have not been able to find any information online regarding when/why this name was corrected, but it appears that it is a case of the possessive/plural example that I mentioned above.

I note that they have replaced the road signs at the other end of this road, but only put a sticker on the sign at this end (at GZ, where the photo was taken).

When placed, this cache was a 400ml Systema container containing logbook, pen, GeoNote and a couple of trinkets.

Here is an article from the NZ Herald about this fascination: "Map man gets 60 changes to NZ geography"

Caches along this road loop are "Coulter or Coulters?" (GC4WAZM), "Hororata" (GC45RAF), "That (former) shed" (GC4WAYM), "Loving Lepidoptera" (GC4Z1HM), "Views of Kiwitea" (GC4YM3V), "Views of Wharite" (GC4YMBA), and "Coulters or Coulter?" (GC4YM2C)
