Brooklyn, Kansas was another of Quantrills targets. A small community once stood here. A historical marker is all that is left. It wasn't a very big town but had a Hotel,General Store and a saloon. Quantrills men burned the town to the ground on their way out of Lawrence. With Federal soldier close on their heels, It is beleived they burned the town in hopes the Federal soldiers would stop and help the residents. Another Historical place in "Bleeding Kansas" The border War prior to the American Civil War was a nasty affair and was commonly settled with torches and guns. It is reported that no one died here because they saw Quantrill's men coming and hid in cornfields while the marauders sacked the town.
