As Granny's pet cat, Sylvester spends most of his time trying to figure out how to catch Granny's pet bird, Tweety.... 
at which, of course, he is unsuccesful.
Wouldn't it just be SO much easier to eat the food in his catfood dish? He wouldn't have to jump around so much because it's right there in front of him!
