Tyros is a traditional fishing village found in the region of Arcadia in the Eastern Peloponnese. It is one of a handful of villages, sandwiched between Mount Parnon and the sea, which form the district of Tsakonia where the ancient Tsakonic dialect is still spoken. The 2km seafront has numerous small shops, hotels, tavernas and bars and is a great place for a swim, a meal or for a longer stay.
The village of Tyros is split into two parts: Paralia Tyrou (Tyros Beach) which is where the cache is located and Ano Tyros (Upper Tyros) which is the older settlement 2km away in the hill overlooking the beach. It is well worth a visit to the upper village as this is typical of the very traditional villages of Kynouria and is in complete contrast to the more modern seaside area.
