At the Happy Daze Hut
The carpark is just off the road to the right before you cross the Makaretu River on Paget Road, behind Norsewood. S40 00.369, E176 10.928.
Cross the bridge and go through the gate.
The hut can be got to either by walking up the river the whole way until a DoC track heads up the hill just past the fork in the river. We feet but no problems, or take one of the 4 w d tracks that go up the hill on the left.
Time is about an hour and a half.
A further hour or so up the river is the Makaretu Hut. The river goes through bush all the way to this one and is really nice.
Cache is a click-clack container in a bread bag to help keep the moisture out. It contains a tiger, puppy, key ring, NZ badge, sliver of rock and a toheroa shell.
You need to phone the two adjacent land owners beforehand to get permission to go up the river to Happy Daze. They are John & Rosie Tylee - 06 8558 118, and Barbara & Graham Ellison, 06 3558 336
