This cache is placed in remembrance of the earthquake felt on Valentines day 2014 at 10:23 PM.
The Edgefield earthquake registered a 4.1 on the Richter scale. The Pax Mountain Fault System is part of the Appalaichaian Mountain Chain. The USGS stated that a plate dropped causing the earthquake. It wasn't a very large quake but it was felt throughout SC, GA, NC, and into TN. There was an aftershock 2 days later that registered a 3.4 on the Richter scale.
