Geocache Description:

Goulds Lagoon is at Austins Ferry. It was designated a wildlife sanctuary in 1938 at the request of the then owner Arthur Gould. It is the only remaining lagoon area within reasonable reach from Hobart and is a refuge and feeding area for waterfowl and other marsh birds including Black Swans, Pelicans, Black Ducks, Chestnut Teals, Purple Swamphens, Egrets, White-faced Herons and Cormorants. Vagrant species, such as Australasian Shovellers, Pink-eared Ducks and Freckled Ducks, visit occasionally. Sometimes you can hear the banjo frogs singing. A viewing platform can be accessed from the car park by a boardwalk across the water with interpretive signage to give an insight into the bird life at the lagoon.
There is a short walking track around part of the lagoon. From the car park the track starts off flat but there is a climb including about 15 steps before it flattens out again. The cache, which is a camouflaged Eclipse tin, is hidden just off the track about half way around.
No bikes, dogs or horses are allowed in the reserve. There is a small playground nearby in Hestercombe Park.
