Though this trail is relatively safe, always be cautious of ticks, snakes, and wild llamas. Yes, you heard right. Wild llamas are usually rare, but it has been rumored that one was spotted on this trail. Encounters are unusual but if a llama is seen, the safest option would be to run. Always run. Llamas can, and will attack, that is of course unless you’re wearing your anti-llama-attack underpants. You don’t have anti-llama-attack underpants?! Why of course you do, we’re geocachers! We’re always prepared!
There are very few that are known to have escaped a llama attack. Do not try to crouch or stay still; when they charge, they go for the lower lumbar vertebrae to try and paralyze their victims. Do not climb trees; llamas can spit up to 30 feet. Luckily, only two species of wild llamas has poisonous saliva. One, however, is native to this area.
Lastly, whatever you do, do not look them in the eye; their crazy stare of death has been rumored to stop victims in their tracks, paralyzing them even. Those who do escape llama attacks say that the ferocious, monstrous look in their eyes haunts their dreams and that they can still hear the savage clicking teeth. These encounters are again unusual and loud noises tend to deter the llamas, they are especially dangerous when startled, so talk loudly as you approach the cache if you want to be extra safe.
