I thought this area could use a few more caches. I grew up in Hurt and spent a LOT of time in "the city" (Altavista)
.
I do NOT recommend this cache for beginner cachers. I've combined elements from some of my favorite caches in the past, so these elements make the cache more difficult. I recommend bringing a calculator and/or paper and pencil with you.
Stage 1: Locate this structure.
It's a landmark in Altavista. You can probably see it from the starting coords, but if not local muggles should be able to help you find it if you need it. Near the building there is a sign which has the number 97 on it (it's not the sign in the picture). Use the years on the sign to solve these equations:
A.) (Year of completion) - 1416= A
B.) (Year it was moved) - 1572= B
Stage 2 coordinates are 37 06.(A), -79 17.(B)
At stage 2, there are two plaques on the wall. The number of years between the two dates on the top plaque=C. The number of years on the bottom plaque=D
The walkway in front of the plaques is made of bricks, some of them have donor plates on them. Count the donated bricks. That number=E
Stage 3 coordinates are 37 05.(C+E+244), -79 19.(D+E+134)
Stage 3 is a puzzle stage. The puzzle (in my opinion) is too difficult for beginning cachers to solve in the field. Once the puzzle is solved you'll have the coordinates for the final stage. Please replace the cache exactly as you found it. Once you've found the cache, continue on in the same direction for some really nice scenery as well as some cool man-made objects.
FTF prize is a gift card worth 65...pesos, depending on the current rate of exchange (ugh! more math!) There are also some trackables and other trinkets, as well as some prizes for little cachers. Help yourself, and let's keep the trackables moving! This is my first hide, so feedback would be appreciated.
Best of luck, intrepid cacher!
Congrats to II JK II, FTF!!!
