Geocache Description:

The Columns of Donkey Mountain

Donkey Mountain is about as close as I can imagine to what a bushwalkers heaven might be like.

An amazing island of rock, soaring out of the valley, ringed by towering cliffs, dotted with distinctive pagodas, the rock fractured by countless cracks, canyons and caves all waiting to be explored. It is a playground for big kids, and despite looking quite small on the map it seems to contain an endless array of new places to discover and be completely blown away by it beauty.

WARNING

WHILST DKMACCA INVITES YOU TO VISIT THIS CACHE AND ITS SUROUNDINGS, I TAKE NO RESPONSIBILITY FOR YOUR ACTIONS WHEN IN THE AREA OF THIS CACHE. THERE ARE HIGH UNFENCED CLIFFS AND LOOSE ROCKS IN THIS AREA; THIS IS AN AWESOME SPOT WHICH CAN BE EXTREMELY DANGEROUS SO PLEASE TAKE CARE OF THE SUROUNDINGS AND THE ENVIROMENT.

There is a parking spot at the start of the walk up to the top along the Wolgan Valley road. You are looking for a stile over the fence at Co ordinates S33 14.090 E150 10.632. The walk up follows an old fence line going up the hill. The track becomes lost in some parts. Once at the top you will see the magnificent rock formations known as the “Columns of Donkey Mountain” The towers of rock also overlook the Emirates Resort. Looking down at this resort, it seemed mind-blowing to think people were forking out $2000-plus a night and yet the views from up here were better than anything they could see! It just goes to show that the best things in life really are free.

You are looking for a ammo box with a Log book and pencil. Please no swaps or Travel Bugs as per National parks instructions.

While up the top you might like to explore some of the other parts of the mountain, Donkey Canyon, Grand Hall (Good Camping spot), Eagle Nest, Gum tree room and many interesting Pagodas and rock formations just to name a few. There is no water up top so please carry plenty for the duration of your stay.
