Geocache Description:

We don’t often stop to think where names come from. For example, I’d always assumed that St. John’s Island was named directly for the apostle. It turns out that it’s the anglicized form of the once-named Pulau Sakijang (Island of a Barking Deer), this name being changed more than 200 years ago. St John's was also once known as Pulau Bendera, or Flag Island, after the British used its hill as a point of elevation to signal ships at sea. Now a quiet getaway from the city crowds, the island has played a small but fascinating part in modern Singapore history. It was the first landing point of Sir Stamford Raffles on 28/1/1819 (not by the Singapore River, as is commonly believed) before his historic meeting with Tungku Long. In the late 19th century, St. John’s was our own Ellis Island, used to quarantine immigrants with cholera and beri-beri before they were allowed to continue to the mainland. Post WWII, it was used as a penal colony for political detainees, and subsequently as a rehabilitation centre for opium addicts. In 1975, it was developed into the more visitor-friendly locale that you see today.

To locate the cache, you will have to solve the following:

  • 20th century U.S. president
  • Actor in “Pulp Fiction”
  • Member of the Beatles
  • Literature Nobelist of the 1960s

Each of the clues above describes a specific famous person, and all four people are linked by this puzzle's theme. Once you have identified these 4 individuals, count the number of letters in their each of their last names, and enter this combination into Certitude to reveal the final coordinates.

You can validate your puzzle solution with certitude.
