Geocache Description:

A cache in Greytown

When a horse called Joe took too much liking to using his car as a scratching post, owner Bill Gallagher Senior scrached his head for a solution.

He devised a cunning electrical circuit that delivered  a shock whenever the horse rocked the vehicle. This quickly cured the problem and sparked an idea for his electric fence invention.

That was in the early 1930's. By the end of the decade Bill had built his first electric fence and formed the foundation of a business supplying electric fences world wide today. Electric fences have a wide range of applications including being used to manage farm animals in a wide range of agricultural situations as well as wild animals such as elephants and security for buildings.

The secret of the farm electric fence is that it provides a high voltage pulse, (usually 6,000 - 8,000 volts), with a very low non lethal current. As compared with the house conection of 230 volts,AC, and a much greater current which  can cause a severe electrical shock.

The cache is a micro protected by a very low voltage electric fence.

To test if an electric fence is going touch it with a 10 - 20 cm long piece of grass. If it is live you will feel a small pulse in your finger tips.
