Geocache Description:



This cache is created to pay tribute to a great actress – Frances Bavier. Although she had a very active career in Broadway, films and televisions series, she is best remember for the 10 years she played Aunt Bee in “The Andy Griffith Show” and “Mayberry RFD”. She has touched most of our lives at one time or another with her always smiling character as aunt to Sheriff Andy Taylor and great-aunt to Opie Taylor.

The posted coords are NOT at the cache location. They will take you to her grave site.

Frances Elizabeth Bavier

An American stage and television actress. She appeared in 10 films and 4 television series.

Born in New York City on December 14, 1902, she began her acting career in April 1925, on Broadway, in the play "The Poor Nut".

During World War II, she travelled with the USO to entertain troops in the Pacific.

In 1951, she got her first film role, that of Mrs Barley in the movie, "The Day the Earth Stood Still." Her last movie was in 1974, in "Benji" where she was the woman with the cat. She played Mrs. Amy Morgan in the TV series "It's a Great Life", and the role of Nora in "The Eve Arden Show.

However, she is most remembered for her role of Aunt Bee (BeatriceTaylor) on "The Andy Griffith Show" (1960 to 1968) and its spinoff series, "Mayberry RFD" (1969 to 1971).

In 1972, she retired from acting and purchased a home in Siler City, NC. She died on December 06, 1989 at her home in Siler City after an extended illness.
