Not located at a gateway as such, but intended as a nice easy starter for a tour around Kinneil Estate.
Located near Kinneil Museum which is normally open between 12:30pm and 4pm 6 days (closed Tuesdays). Free entry. So maybe plan your trip within these times. Kinneil Estate includes the 15th Century Kinneil House. When approaching this Cache from the East you will see the House along a magnificent avenue of trees. Also nearby is the Antonine Wall. A Frontier of the Roman Empire World Heritage site. In particular Kinneil Estate has a very nice example of a Roman mile Fortlet. Only 10 minutes walk from this Cache. There is another cache near the fortlet. The name Kinneil is derived from Wall's End, indicating the nearby start/end of this Roman feature.
Additionally, a few minutes walk from the Cache is James Watt's Cottage. The place where the inventor (who give his name to 100 Watt bulbs!), developed the efficient Steam Engine. Kick starting the Industrial Revolution in the UK.
Lots of fine walks too, with woodlands and ponds.
Placed with kind permission by Falkirk Community Trust. Kinneil Estate is parkland and woodland open 365 days. 24 hours.
