Carol Defence Line Traditional Cache

Before the WW2, countries were preparing for the war, creating defense lines. France made the Maginot line, Germany the Siegfried line, while Romania made a line, later called by the people, Carol defense line. This defense line was supposed to protect Romania from Hungary and was  300 km length, from Maramures to Arad County.The construction begun in 1938 and was finished in 1940, containing 320 bunkers positioned to form 2, 3 or 4 lines of defense, in depth.

The bunkers had ditches in front of them, barb wires and could ensure 1 bullet per 2 square cm. The bunkers had two floors, ground floor for ammunition while the top one for firing. Unfortunately these bunkers were never used and according with the 1940 Wiena Arbitrage these positions were surrendered without fight. The Hungarian Army took whatever that could salvage from these positions and after that destroy them. The county of Ardeal was surrendered without a fight to Hungary in 30 august 1940. It is recommended to have boots especially after a rain when going for the GC. If one should not find the box, take a picture with the bunker and log it as found it./
