Geocache Description:

Siler City Wall Murals:
Throughout downtown, brick exteriors have become the "canvas" of muralists, bearing by-gone scenes of life in Siler City.

As you stroll (or ride) along the street in Siler City and look at the murals, you will need to do some short math calculations at each  mural to be able to find the cache at the end.

The posted coords are for Mural 1.  Total walk (in loop back to car) is right at 1/2 mile.

Settled in the 1750s and chartered in 1887, Siler City is the largest town located within Chatham County’s borders and has an estimated 8,000+ residents in over six square miles. In the western part of the county, it is convenient to the Greensboro area as well as the Triangle. Two major highways, US 421 and US 64 cross in Siler City.

The downtown area includes many historic buildings, which currently house shops and restaurants, banks, churches, and even an arts incubator. Several murals illustrating the town’s history and culture have been painted on several exterior walls throughout town.

Final Location = N 35 43. AAB  W 079 27.CDE

MURAL 1:  Coca-Cola with Clark Gable Mural --  N 35 43.435 W 079 27.825

Siler City's first mural was a 1940's Coca-Cola outside wall advertisement.  Clark Gable is depicted in this mural. The mural was restored by an original Coca Cola sign painter, Louis Brady from Franklinville in 2011.

This mural is 75 feet by 23 feet.  Painted for the Siler City Mural Society, it was painted by Stacye Leanze and completed in January, 2002.  It depicts 3 scenes from the history of the town's second oldest store. On the "left" section you can see the words  "Elder Hardware Co.", which was the building located across the parking lot - the building which is now occupied by Ace Hardware.

B = (On the "right" and "middle" sections of the mural, the number of people inside the store) minus 2. (Does NOT included the Elder Hardware part of the mural on the left)

Mural 3:  Another Coca-Cola Mural --  N 35 43.357 W 079 27.823

This mural is located on the Edwards-Wren Building II.  The building was built in 1909. Not sure if the "Cash Market" words on the faded out mural in the alley is referring to the town's meat market  that was housed here for many years or not.  Could not find out the actual date the mural was painted.

SPECIAL NOTE: Although the Wherigo cache, GC4ZAVR "Traveling Through Time - A Cacher's Tale", and this one are NOT setup in the same order, it should be very easy to do them both at the same time. Both caches start at the same location, so do the Wherigo cache and you will pass or come very close to the five murals you need to locate for this multi.
