Gunpowder Falls State Park is only open from dawn to dusk. Please respect park hours.
Once you find some of the other caches along the trail, you may be tempted to stop. But don't. This one has the prettiest view of them all. If you come at this from the river, the terrain rating is at least 3.5. You can follow along the trail that doesn't follow the river and only be about 160 feet away and have a much easier (but longer) route. But, what fun is that? You really do get a beautiful view of Big Gunpowder Falls River from here.
Imagine being here back in the mid-1800's, when the Joppa Iron Works was at full production. What would you have seen from here? Perhaps some rather large ocean-going vessels loading up on the North side of the river. You'd see the outbuildings on the South side of the river with loads of hot bars of iron being trekked across the bridge that used to be near the railroad tracks.
