The Scottish Samurai Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

MikeLeFish: Unfortunately, I am no longer in Aberdeen often enough to be able to reliably maintain this, so I'm archiving in the hope that one of the other active cachers in the area is able to place something else nearby to highlight this location.

Geocache Description:

A nano cache in Europe's largest suburb, near the childhood home of Thomas Blake Glover, "The Scottish Samurai".

This cache is located near to the Scottish home of Thomas Blake Glover, also known as "The Scottish Samurai".

Glover was born in Fraserburgh, but moved to Aberdeen as a child. He would grow up to be a key figure in Japan during the latter half of the 19th century, among other things bringing the first steam locomotive to Japan as well as helping found the shipping company that would eventually become what is today known as Mitsubishi Corporation. Glover eventually died in Tokyo, aged 73, and was buried in Nagasaki.

His former home here in Scotland was restored and opened as a museum of his early life. It closed several years ago due to lack of funding, but its caretakers have not given up on hopes of re-opening it should funds become available.

Cache is an easily accessible nano, near a busy road and bus stop. Stealth may be required, cache-and-dash is possible.
