Geocache Description:

"Love Ladder" is an incredible love story in 40’s Chongqing, China.


This cache is NOT at the posted coordinates.

“Love Ladder” is not only a Cantopop song, but an incredible love story in 40’s Chongqing, China.  A man hand carved wife a 6,000 granite stairway in the mountain.

Six-year-old Liu first time met Xu, who was ten years older than him.  When he was sixteen years old, Xu became a widowed mother.  Three years later they fell in love, but at that time, it was unacceptable and immoral for a young man to love an older woman. So they decided to elope, in order to avoid the market gossip and prate, they were far away from the village to the mountain, with an altitude of 1500 m to settle, lived a hard but happy.  In the second year of living in the mountain, Liu began and continued for more than 50 years to hand carve the steps for the sake of his wife could get down the mountain easily.

After a half century in 2002, an expedition was exploring the mountain, they surprisingly found the elderly couple and the over 6,000 hand carved steps.

Over 50 years of Love.  Liu and Xu died on December 18, 2007 and October 30, 2012 respectively.  Hope they can be happy in heaven!
