Beckermet is a village in the English county of Cumbria, located near the coast between Egremont and Seascale.
The cache is hidden in the centre of the village so some stealth is required. Cache is a key holder so bring your own pen.
The Beckermet Mining Company was founded in 1903 and went into production in 1906. Three deep shafts were sunk as the ore was at considerable depth. They mined a deposit which was one of the largest ever found in Cumberland. With foreign ore imports becoming cheaper Beckermet mine closed in 1973. In approximately 1981 Beckermet engineers were set up on the site of the mine near Yeorton to do mechanical and agricultural engineering work and manufacture fencing, gates, grids and barriers.
