Around Fort Collins there are many transformer cabinets painted with various artwork. This artwork is part of a partnership between the city's Art in Public Places program (http://www.fcgov.com/artspublic/), the state and the Utilities department. According to the website, the purpose of these painted boxes is to mitigate graffiti, minimize box maintenance, and add artwork to the community. The artwork on the cabinets has quite a range from images of nature to the cartoonish to the the very abstract and colorful. On the Art in Public Places website linked above, there is a very handy PDF that maps out the various transformer cabinert artwork around town.
I have placed a small geocache near one of these cabinets. Please note, the cache is NEAR the transformer cabinet. It is in no way attached, on, under, or touching the box. Please do not touch the cabinet. Not only is it someone's artwork it is also a transformer box and it is always good practice to stay away from anything electrical when out in the world regardless of how safe you believe it to be.
The container itself is recycled with permission from the nearby and now archived Cell Tower 11 cache. I made a couple adjustments to put a little spring in the cache's step but all in all the cache location and container is nothing out of the ordinary. Thanks to longnlat for allowing us to reuse his cache.
This area can be somewhat high muggle depending on season, time of day and the weather. Please hide cache as good or better than when you found it. Happy caching!
