This cemetery is the second cemetery for the area. The original cemetery was located on Wash Away Beach and due to erosion in 1977, the interments were exhumed and moved to the new North Cove Pioneer Cemetery before they were lost.

The original cemetery in North Cove was active from 1889 to 1958. By 1976, an on-going (and still going) ocean erosion problem was slowly washing the cemetery out into the ocean. A $20,000 grant from the state paid to move the cemetery to its new location, and by 1977, the internments were all exhumed and the move was complete. The land for the new cemetery was donated by life long North Cove resident, Bill Jacobson. The North Cove area, where the original cemetery was, is now way out there in the ocean.
The community of North Cove is now long gone, though you may be able to find a few remains here and there; the area is now commonly referred to Wash Away Beach
On a Geocaching historical note, this is the second cache in this location, the first one was called Riding with Judi GCRW6J, it was active 11-26-05 until 02-23-13 and can be viewed here.
The Cache is located a little outside of the cemetery. It is a small sized lock n lock container. The hint is a give away and will lead you right to the cache.
While there are no posted hours, I ask that the cacher only search for this cache during daylight hours out of respect for the cemetery. While you are here please take your time and look around, and enjoy all of the history here, but remember to be respectful. The cemetery hasn't had a new internment since 1977, so it is unlikely that you will run into any mourners, but please be respectful of the grounds and any possible visitors that might not understand our geocaching game. The cache is NOT located near any graves.
