Ålands Museum är landskapets centralmuseum och invigdes 1981 och byggnaden är ritad av professor Helmer Stenroos från Helsingfors, i samma byggnad finns även Ålands konstmuseum.
Ålandsmuseum är centralt placerad i stadens centrum, intill stadshuset och landskapets förvaltningsbyggnad.
Den permanenta delen av utställningen presenterar Åland i vid bemärkelse, från forntid till nutid. Året efter att utställningen öppnade fick Ålands museum ta emot Europarådets museipris 1982. Priset ges årligen till det museum som med sin verksamhet främjat förståelsen för den europeiska kulturtraditionen.
