In Rome for just a quick trip and don't have time to make it to Pompey? Give Ostia Antica a go!
Ostia Antica is a large archeological site near the modern suburb of Ostia, about 19 miles to the southwest of Rome. In ancient times, it served as Rome's principal harbor.
While nowhere near as large as Pompey, the beautifully preserved ruins of this once-thriving seaport sprawl over 10,000 acres along both sides of a main street that runs for more than a mile from the site's entrance toward the sea. Wandering around, you’ll see the remains of the docks, warehouses, apartment flats, mansions, shopping arcades, and baths — all giving a peek at how the ancient Romans lived. The site is noted for the excellent preservation of its buildings, frescoes and mosaics, and is easily reached by public transport from the centre of town.
Go get there, go to the Piramide Metro stop on line B and follow the signs to the Ostia trains. Take the Lido train – about a 30 minute ride.

Ostia Antica è un grande sito archeologico vicino al sobborgo moderno di Ostia , circa 19 miglia a sud-ovest di Roma . Nei tempi antichi , era il porto principale di Roma.
Mentre non e cosi grande come Pompei , i scavi sono ben conservati. Girovagando , vedrai i resti di moli, magazzini, appartamenti, ville , centri commerciali e bagni. Il sito è noto per l'ottima conservazione dei suoi edifici, affreschi e mosaici , ed è facilmente raggiungibile con i mezzi pubblici dal centro della città.
Como arrivare: Dalla stazione di metro Piramide segui le indicazioni per i treni per Ostia . Prendi il treno Lido – ci vuole circa 30 minuti .
Non dimenticare di portare una penna o matita, e attenzione ai muggle!
