Snowmobile trail LP4A follows the old State Route 30 roadbed from this point to the next cache south.
Significant improvements to the state highway were made in the mid 1960's. It was a huge construction project resulting in the reroute of most of the highway between Speculator and Wells. Take a look down the snowmobile trail and note how narrow the old roadway is Travel was definitely slower in those days.
The old state road from here to Speculator was renamed Downey Ave in honor of Charlie Downey, who ran a local auto dealership and gas station for many years. The building is still there but it is no longer a gas station or dealership.
There should be room on the side of the road to park even in the winter but please don't drive on or block the snowmobile trail.
