Der Feuerwehr Kerpen obliegen die Aufgaben des abwehrenden und vorbeugenden Brandschutzes, der Hilfeleistungen, des Rettungsdienstes und des Katastrophenschutzes. Sie leistet im Jahr rund 11.000 Mal schnell und professionell Hilfe, wenn Bürgerinnen und Bürger in Not geraten sind.
Die Kolpingstadt Kerpen verfügt über eine moderne, sehr gut ausgebildete und ausgerüstete Feuerwehr mit ca. 300 freiwilligen Feuerwehrfrauen und -männern sowie ca. 100 hauptamtlichen Mitarbeiterinnen und Mitarbeitern, die ihren Dienst in insgesamt zehn Einheiten - inklusive des hauptamtlichen Abmarsches - versehen.
Die Leitstelle hat die Aufgabe zur Abwehr von Lebensgefahr oder schwerer gesundheitlicher Schäden, Hilfeersuchen aller Art von Bürgern, Einwohnern und Besuchern des Kreises und anderen Stellen entgegenzunehmen, zu bewerten, die erforderlichen Einsatzmittel zu alarmieren und an die Einsatzstelle zu führen oder an andere Stellen weiterzuleiten. Während des Einsatzes koordiniert und dokumentiert die Leitstelle den Einsatzverlauf und unterstützt die Einsatzkräfte.
Aus organisatorischen und wirtschaftlichen Gründen wurde die Leitstelle unter Beibehaltung der Aufgabenträgerschaft des Rhein-Erft-Kreises im Frühjahr 2005 neu errichtet, an die Hauptfeuerwache der Stadt Kerpen angegliedert und in das dortige Amt für Feuerschutz, Rettungsdienst und Katastrophenschutz als eigenständige Abteilung integriert.
Zur permanenten Sicherstellung der Versorgung der Bürger und Bürgerinnen im Rhein-Erft-Kreis ist die Leitstelle und die Feuer- und Rettungswache an 365 Tagen im Jahr im 24-Stundendienst besetzt.

The Kolping city of Kerpen has a modern , very well trained and equipped fire with about 300 volunteer fire - men and women , as well as approximately 100 full-time employees , in a total of ten units in service - including the full- Abmarsches - provided .
The control center has to evaluate the task to avert danger to life or serious damage to health , requests for assistance of all kinds of citizens , residents and visitors to the receive circuit and other places , to alert the necessary operational resources , and to lead them to the work site or forward to other places. For organizational and economic reasons, the control center was rebuilt while retaining the task sponsorship of the Rhein- Erft district in early 2005, attached to the main fire station of the city of Kerpen and integrated into the local office for fire protection , emergency services and civil protection as an independent department.
In order to permanently ensure the supply of the citizens in the Rhein-Erft-Kreis the control center and the fire and rescue station is staffed 365 days a year in the 24 -hour service.
