Everyones favourite type of cache?
This is a quick cache and dash on the road between Upper Saxondale and Cropwell Butler / Saxondale Island, easily accessed from the A46 and A52.
Upper Saxondale was developed between 1995 and 2001 on the site of the former Saxondale Hospital, the Nottinghamshire County Asylum. Originally named St James' Park, the village name was changed to Upper Saxondale in 1999. The hospital was built to replace Sneinton Asylum, designed by architect E Purnell Hooley (better known as the inventor of tarmac!) and it opened in 1902 at a cost of £147000! It was also used as a military hospital during WWI caring for shell-shocked soldiers. The hospital closed in 1987.
The road here is relatively quiet, but please be aware of traffic as you walk to the cache if you use the suggested parking, and while retrieving and replacing the cache. As this is at the side of the road I wouldn't recommend this cache for kids.
