Gammelola Traditional Cache

This tree used to be Cache Owner's playground growing up. The cache is located next to a parking lot with picnic tables with a nice view over the fjord. There is room for a few geocoins and travel bugs with small attachments.

The cache was moved to a new location in July 2014, and moved back again in June 2022.

Gammelola er navnet til en spesiell svartor på Vinjeøra i Hemne kommune i Sør-Trøndelag. Treet er gammelt, men hvor gammelt det er, vet ingen. En gang i tidsrommet  1875 - 1885 ble løv fra Gammelola skåret av og brukt til å tette en demning under en stor flom, så det må allerede på den tiden ha vært et veldig stort tre. Etter denne hendelsen begynte treet å råtne og bli hult, men det fortsatte å vokse, og det gjør det fortsatt.

Gammelola is the name of a specific alder tree in Vinjeøra in Hemne, Sør-Trøndelag. The tree is old, but no one knows how old it is. Once, sometime between 1875 and 1885, leaves from Gammelola were cut off and used to repair a dam during a big flood, so the tree must have already have been a very big tree back then. After this incident, the tree started to rot and become hollow, but it kept growing, and it still does.
