The White House Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

Southerntrekker: Hi There

As the owner has not responded to either my log or my colleague's previous log requesting that they check this cache I am archiving it.

Please note that once the cache has been archived, this can not be undone. This is explained in the Help Center - http://support.groundspeak.com//index.php?pg=kb.page&id=70

You will need to create a new listing, put it back in for review and as long as it meets today's guidelines and no other caches have been published in the area causing a proximity problem, then it will be published.

Regards

Geocache Description:

Little cache at a well known landmark site in Jersey.

The White House is just that - a tiny white-washed cottage which has been used as a landmark by sailors. Mention was first made of it in 1665 when it was the St. Peter's Guardhouse. In 1815 it was used by Marie Best and her children during a smallpox epidemic in the island and then became known as La Caumine a Marie Best. It fell into disrepair and was eventually bought by Captain John Hilton as a holiday cottage. The cottage was donated to the National Trust for Jersey by Captain Hilton's widow in 1975. It is now a much photographed landmark appearing regularly on local calendars and postcards.
