Lagos StonePlay Multi-Cache

This cache has been archived.

Blue Rabbit: I archive this cache because the new game Goal Parede 2020 PT is now online:
see GC83AHF
The new cache is not so complex and difficult, but makes more fun (I hope).
But see yourself ...

Geocache Description:

A 6-Stage Multi-Cache with a total length of 2.6 km

Lagos StonePlay

This is a 6-Stage Multi-Cache with a total length
of 2.6 km finishing close to the starting point.

dedicated to Team Caracache

At each stage you have to find a mystery word which is used to identify the coordinates of the next stage. To convert the words to numerical coordinates you will need to print this page including the game board below and also take a felt tip pen and a pencil, preferably with a rubber.

Assume N37° 06.??? and W008° 40.??? for all stages.

At Stage 2 pick up 12 small stones and number each one with the numbers in the large starting grid below using the felt tip.

Procedure at Each Stage
To get the missing digits for North and West for the next stage you must do the following in order:
1) Ascertain the mystery word indicated by the clue.
The word is as long as the clue.
A is a letter in the red sector (AO, BP, CQ, DR)
M is a letter in yellow sector (N, MZ, LY, E, FS, GT)
U is a letter in the green sector (KX, JW, IV, HU)
2) Select letters from the mystery word according to their position in the word using the Stone Code given at each stage
3) Using this code (in order) make moves with the stones as described below to form a new grid
4) From the new grid read off the North & West coordinates using the Coords Code given at each stage. The Coords Code takes the form of 3 letters (x/xx). The first single letter shows the column (A-D) where you find 3 digits of North reading downwards. The other two letters mark the position of the first digit West. The next two digits follow, reading left to right along the row. For example Coords Code A/MB using the grid beside would be N=159 (blue) and W=678 (green)
5) Optionally (but strongly advised) add the six digits of the coords together (36 in the above example). This should correspond with the Control Total given at each stage allowing you to check that you have got it right!
6) In the small grid alongside each clue, copy down the new grid after the moves that you have made with the stones. You will need this at the next stage as this will be the starting grid for that stage.

Stone Moves
Having found the mystery word at any stage pick out the letters using the Stone Code - for example, 6-3-1 refers to the sixth letter followed by the third letter then the first letter. Then for each letter move the stones. Down (if it appears above the grid), up (if it is along the bottom of the grid), right (if it is left of the grid), or left (if right of the grid). That is, move the row or column AWAY from the letter. The number that drops off the end is moved to the vacant space created at the other end.

For example, using the example grid beside.
"C" (or "Q") would alter the third column
from 371 to 137 (reading down).
"F" or "S" would change the middle row from
5678 to 6785 (reading across).
When you have completed all the moves in the Stone Code you will be able to work out the coords of the next stage as described above, but make a note of this new grid in the blank grids provided so that you can set out the stones in the same positions at the next stage.

Starting Grid

Stage 1
Start at Cafeteria Pao d'Àvo Maria N37° 06.624 W008° 40.840.
Outside the cafe facing the road is a company sign (the lower part of this sign contains the number 200). What is the word written in large black letters? (Clue: MMAMMMM).
We'll make it easy for the first stage by having no Stone Code (and therefore no stone moves) and giving you the first letter of the Coords Code.
Coords Code: D/4-3 (4th & 3rd letter from 7-letter word).
Now read off the coords from the Starting Grid.
Control Total: 33
Now continue to stage 2.

Stage 2
Here you see a sign with 2 words. What is the second word? (Clue: UMMMAMAMUAMAM).
Stone Code: 13-4; Coords Code: C/LB; Control Total: 40
Continue to stage 3 after you have copied the new grid into the blank grid beside.

Stage 3
Here some words are engraved. We need one of these words. (Clue: AMMMAMAUM).
Stone Code: G -7-2-1; Coords Code: B/NB; Control Total: 36
Note that this time you need 4 letters/moves!
First the "G" which is not in the word, then 3 others.

Stage 4
In the triangle look down and find some words made from rusty letters.
The longest is? And the short word above it? (Clue: MMMAMAM-AMM).
Stone Code: 8-9-4-1; Coords Code: C/NA; Control Total: 40

Stage 5
a) What animal can you see?
b) Look for a word above the animal
(Clue: MMMAUAMM-AMMMAA).
Stone Code: 6-9-8-7; Coords Code: B/LB; Control Total: 31

The Final (cache is a small clip and lock container suitable for small TBs etc).
New Final is a small tube 65m away. Add to the final code +0.033N and +0.018W.
Look from the nose to edge of M and you will find it. No stone to turn! Only grab (from 40cm height)!

As this is a tribute to Team Caracache it would be appreciated if other cachers resisted the temptation to beat them to the FTF. Thanks!
